ROOTS - OUR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

Move Button Move Button

As young people grow into adulthood and begin more and more to face the challenges that the world brings, they need assistance in deepening the roots of their faith. That is what the central focus of our Roots group is.

Roots meets on Sunday evenings as part of our 1Family ministry from September through April, 5:30 – 7:30pm. The group also schedules monthly fun events which have included disc golf, a cooking night, and nerf gun wars.

During the summer, our schedule changes. We have a weekly backyard Bible study, serve at the Soup Kitchen, and take our yearly mission trip. We also schedule a few fun events during these months.

Each year, the Roots group goes on a summer mission trip. The location varies each time, but the goals remain the same. They are:

1) Align with the vision of our church by answering God’s call to use our gifts by serving others.

2) Encourage each youth and the adult leaders to discover new gifts.

3) Explore opportunities that will further mature our individual faith walk in Christ.

4) Build a sense of “community in Christ,” both within our own group and with God’s community at large.

Below are descriptions of our most recent trips, and See our Mission Trips Blog here!

2022 - La Center, KY

Once again we partnered with TEAMeffort. We were able to help the local community of La Center by building a ramp for a home owner. We also worked in Mayfield and assisted with clean up from the Tornado last December.

2021 - Altoona, PA

We partnered with TEAMeffort and worked at a local church that is in the heart of Altoona. We were able to help the church continue its mission of serving the local community.

2020 – Sutton, Alaska

This is a trip we have taken every 4 years since 2004. We partner with Eaglecrest Alaska Missions to live, serve, and play at a camp that was started as a ministry to the local community that was ripe for seeing God’s love shown through tangible acts of service. Every time we go, the work that needs to be done is a little different. We have cut wood, sided and painted houses, assisted with yard work, cleaned community parks, provided a community wide picnic, served lunch at Kingdom Air, and shared our testimonies of God’s work in us. We also get to see God’s majesty and wonder through his beautiful creation as we hike and explore the beautiful area around Sutton.

2019 – Warrensburg, MO

We participated in the CIY Move convention that was designed to amplify the call of Christ on students lives to become Kingdom Workers. Through the study of Elijah, students learned that God calls us into his story, we can trust God to provide, God will sustain us when we despair, and God sends us to reach others.

We would love to have your high schooler join us!
